Project Overview
This project involved supplying and wiring a new commercial make-up air unit (MUA) to support a Korean restaurant kitchen with heavy grill, pan fry, and wok cooking. The goal: bring in clean tempered air to balance the exhaust hood and keep the kitchen safe, breathable, and compliant.
Work included electrical distribution to the new unit, disconnect and controller installation, integration with the existing exhaust/hood system, lighting/feed cleanup in the ceiling space, and final testing while the restaurant remained operational.

Scope of Work
- Power Feed & Disconnect: Ran new dedicated circuit to the make-up air unit, installed properly rated disconnect and overcurrent protection.
- Controls & Interlock: Wired control panel / enable signal so the make-up air starts with the exhaust hood, maintaining airflow balance.
- Conduit & Support: Installed EMT/conduit routing through tight ceiling space and rooftop penetration points, with secure support and labeling.
- Ceiling Cleanup: Removed old abandoned wiring, reworked lighting/receptacle feeds around the hood area to meet code and improve serviceability.
- Testing & Verification: Checked voltage, amperage draw, fan rotation, and air delivery with the mechanical contractor during startup.
- Minimal Downtime: Coordinated shutdown windows so the restaurant could stay open for service.
Results
- Balanced airflow and reduced heat load in the cook line.
- Cleaner electrical layout around the commercial hood for easier future service.
- Startup supported and documented with the mechanical contractor.
