Project Description

At the NextStar Energy plant, the Active Carbon Tower and Dust Collector systems rely on temperature sensors and air knocker solenoid valves that must keep operating even during a power loss or fire condition. Seoul Electric installed dedicated AC/DC UPS systems across six outdoor locations — Anode and Cathode towers and dust collectors — providing backup 24VDC power that keeps temperature monitoring alive and supports the plant's safety shutdown sequence when normal power fails. All field wiring was upgraded to 2-hour fire-rated cable, and every fitting, conduit, and enclosure was rated NEMA 4 or higher for outdoor environmental protection.

Scope of Work

  • UPS systems — installed six outdoor UPS enclosures with battery backup across the Anode and Cathode Active Carbon Towers and Dust Collectors
  • Power connections — 120VAC input power and 24VDC output distribution to safety-critical devices
  • Fire-rated wiring — upgraded all cabling between control panels and field devices to 2-hour fire-rated cable
  • Field device wiring — temperature monitoring circuits and air knocker solenoid valve control circuits
  • Environmental protection — NEMA 4+ rated fittings, conduits, and enclosures for outdoor service
  • Inspection & certification — nameplate installation, with field evaluation and ESA inspection completed
